Our Mission
At Oxford Trails, our mission is simple: to encourage exploration, wellness, and connection through the great outdoors. We believe that everyone—whether a college student needing a break from class or a lifelong townie—should have easy access to the beautiful trails right here in Oxford, Ohio. Many of these paths are overlooked simply because people don’t know they exist. Our goal is to change that by sharing clear, honest, and accessible information that helps more people get outside and moving.
About Us
Oxford Trails was created as part of a college class project—but it quickly grew into something more meaningful. As a Miami University student and Oxford local, I realized how often incredible trails around our town went unnoticed. This site was built for people like me: students, residents, and outdoor lovers who want to enjoy nature without traveling far. I’m a firm believer that time spent outside is good for both physical and mental health, and I hope this project inspires more people to experience the benefits for themselves.

Trail Ethics: Our 4 Rules
To help preserve the beauty of our local trails and protect everyone’s experience, Oxford Trails promotes four key principles:
Leave No Trace
Whatever you bring with you on a hike should come back with you. That means packing out trash, food wrappers, and anything else you carry in. Avoid picking flowers, stacking rocks, or taking natural souvenirs, and resist the urge to carve into trees or benches. Leave everything just as you found it so others can enjoy the trail as much as you did. “Take only pictures, leave only footprints” is more than a saying—it’s a responsibility.
Respect Wildlife and Other Hikers
Part of the joy of hiking is sharing space with wildlife and fellow nature lovers. Observe animals from a distance and never feed them—it can harm their health and change their natural behaviors. Be mindful of your noise level and yield the trail to others when appropriate, especially to those going uphill or moving faster. A friendly nod, a quiet hello, and shared respect go a long way in building a welcoming trail community.
Stay on the Trail
It can be tempting to explore off the beaten path, but sticking to the marked trails is essential. Going off-trail can harm delicate plant life, cause erosion, and disturb animal habitats. It also increases your risk of getting lost or injured. Trails are designed to guide you through nature in a way that’s both safe for you and respectful of the environment—so trust the path and stay on it.
Plan Ahead and Be Prepared
Before heading out, take the time to research the trail you’re visiting. Check maps, trail conditions, and weather forecasts so you know what to expect. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and pack essentials like water, snacks, a flashlight, first aid supplies, and a trail map or GPS. It’s also a good idea to tell someone where you’re going and when you plan to return. A little preparation goes a long way toward having a safe, enjoyable hike—and it ensures you’re ready for the unexpected.
